XIAMEN,June24(Xinhua)--DubbedawindowofChina"sopening-up,thecoastalcityofXiamenlocatedintheeasternprovinceofFujianhasbeenattheforefrontofpavingthewayforhigh-qualitydevelopment.

TheGDPofXiamensurgedfrom292.2billionyuan(about40.7billionU.S.dollars)in2012to780.3billionyuanin2022,withanannualincreaseof7.5percent.Foreigntradeexceeded900billionyuanin2022.

Duringtheperiod,theaccumulatedfixed-assetinvestmenttotaledover2.5trillionyuaninthecity,andtheannualrealizedinvestmentmorethandoubledto297.1billionyuanin2022.

Lastyear,theoutputvalueofmachineryandelectronicinformationmanufacturingstoodatabout550billionyuanor61percentofthetotalindustrialproductionvalue.

Emergingindustriesofbiologicalmedicine,newenergyandnewmaterialtookup32.4percent,whileculturalandcreativeindustriesmaintaineddouble-digitgrowth.

Establishedin1993,Taikoo(Xiamen)AircraftEngineeringCompanyLimited(TAECO)hasplayedapivotalroleinthetransformativejourneyofXiamen,propellingittobecomethepioneerindevelopingChina"saeronauticalmaintenanceindustry.

AccordingtoLiZhenglin,vicepresidentofTAECO,theadvantageofXiamenasoneofChina"sspecialeconomiczonesimpelledthecompanytostartabusinessinthecity.

Theimplementationoffavorablepoliciesandstreamlinedcustomsclearanceprocedureshassignificantlycontributedtotherapidgrowthofenginemaintenance,undercarriageservicing,andpowertransmissionanddistributionindustries,Liexplained.

Headdedthatthelocalgovernmenttookasignificantstridetwoyearsagobydecidingtoexemptimporttariffsonaviationmaterials,aremarkablestepfordomesticenterprisestocutcostsinaeronauticalmaintenance.

"Thisisahigh-qualitydevelopmentpath,"hesaid,addingthatsuchprogresswouldnothavebeenachievablewithouttheimprovingbusinessenvironmentofChinaandpreferentialpoliciesbyXiamen.

Tofurthertheopeningup,Xiamenhasbeenacceleratingmajorinfrastructureprojectsforglobaltransport,includingtheconstructionofanewinternationalairportinitsXiang"anDistrict,slatedforcompletionin2026.

BytheendofMarch2023,296investmentprojectsinthecountriesandregionsalongtheBeltandRoadInitiative(BRI)wereregisteredinXiamen,withatotalcontractedvolumeof6.04billiondollars.Theseprojectscovermanufacturing,wholesaleandretail,agricultureandfisherysectors.

Asaresult,689foreign-fundedenterpriseswereestablishedinXiamenbytheBRIcountriesandregionsinthepastdecade,withcontractedutilizedforeigncapitalstandingat1.04billiondollars.

In2022alone,thenumberofnewlylaunchedBRIforeign-fundedbusinesseshadmorethanquadrupled,andthetradevolumeofcross-bordere-commercesurgedby43.7percent.

ThankstotheBRI,Xiamenhasestablishedcooperationwithdomesticandforeigninstitutesandcollegestonurturetalents.Ithas22sistercitiesand15friendlyportsworldwideasoftheendof2022.

BetterlivelihoodforlocalresidentshasbeenatoppriorityofXiamen"sgovernmentwork.

Duringthe2012-2022period,thedisposableincomepercapitainXiamen"surbanandruralareassawanannualincreaseof7.8percentand8.9percent,respectively.

Thecityhasimprovedthequalityanddistributionofeducationresources,builtregionalmedicalcentersandlargehealthcarefacilities,increasedunitsofaffordablehousingforrentalandsale,andstabilizedsuppliesandpricesofcommodities.

Furthermore,thesewagetreatmentcapacityinthecityincreasedfrom830,000tonnesperdayin2012to2.04milliontonnesin2022,andgarbagedisposalcapacitywentupfrom1,000tonnesperdayto5,900tonnes.
