AsofFeb.13,Türkiye"sDisasterandEmergencyManagementAuthority(AFAD)hadcarriedoutacomprehensivedeploymentoflarge-scaleexcavatingequipmentinearthquake-strickenareas.TherescuecoordinationandcommandcenteroftheRamunionrescueteamassessedthelocalsituationandbelievedthatwehadcompletedourrescuetasksandcouldleaveforhome.

AfterreceivingapprovaltoleavefromtheChineseEmbassyinTürkiyeandChina"sMinistryofEmergencyManagement,Ramuniongaveorderstoourteammembersonthefrontline:AllpersonnelandequipmentwouldevacuateTürkiye"sHatayProvinceontheafternoonofFeb.13localtimeandreturntoChinainthesmallhoursofFeb.15.

Lookingbackonourrescueexperienceinthecountry,IcanrememberhowpeoplegaveuswarmlooksaswearrivedatIstanbulAirportsixdaysago.Theyweresoanxiousforustoreachthequake-strickenareasassoonaspossiblethattheywereevenwillingtoletustaketheirflighttogofirst.

Wehaveallbeenhopingformiracles.However,earthquakerescueisnotaneasyjob.Itreliesonscience,respectforfacts,arationalandrigorousattitude,andcooperationamongteammembers.Weoftenhavetocarryoutamassivesearchandconductassessmentofthestructureofabuildingandthesecurityofthesurroundingenvironmentbeforedemolishingit.

IthinkIwillrememberthefrightenedfaceofthechildwerescuedinBelentownonFeb.9fortherestofmylife.

IcanstillrecalltheexcitementofWangBin,thedeputyheadofourrescueteam,whenwefinallyconfirmedthatthepeopleweweretryingtolocatewerestillalive.Beforethat,wehadspentmorethanthreehoursworkingatthesite,inspectinganddemolishingthebuilding.

"Wefoundthem!Wefoundthem!"hecried.Itwasafamilyoffive.Themothercouldn"tspeakwhenshewascarriedout,buttriedherbesttogiveathumbsuptotherescuers.Therewasthunderousapplausefromthecrowd.Everyonehadbeenwaitingsoeagerlytoseelivessaved.

AsoftheeveningofFeb.12localtime,therescueteamofRamunionhadsearched178collapsedbuildingsinfourcitiesofHatayProvince,rescuingandhelpingrescueatotalof24people.Amongthem,ninesurvived.

Theworldneedsmutualassistanceandlove.TherescueoperationhasgivenmeanopportunitytogettoknowTürkiye.Whenweworkedtogetherwiththelocalpeople,Iwasdeeplyimpressedbytheirmodesty,courtesy,rigorousmanner,andcarefulness.

Whenyouprovideassistancetoothers,youhavetorespectandunderstandthem.Ourteammembershavealsoimpressedthelocalpeoplewithourrespectforthelocalcustoms,ourprofessionalismandscientificapproachinrescuework.

Ibelievewehavemadeit.Wehavecarriedoutatransnationalrescueoperationinaprofessionalmanner.

Chinesepeopleenjoyhavingamajorinfluenceintheworld.Aswebecomebetterversionsofourselves,weareabletohelpandinfluenceothers.

TherescueteamofRamunionhastakenpartin17transnationalrescueoperations.Theteam’sprofessionalismisareflectionofChina"sstrengthininternationalhumanitarianassistance.
